Summary

“When I was young and full of strength, I dedicated my entire life to taking care of my family, however, now that I am old and weak, my family has abandoned, and no one seems to care about my wellbeing. I am forsaken” - Pratap Singh

“I had always lived my life as homeless person but I was able to cope with the challenges that came up with that life style. I was young and strong which helped me get by however my fortune changed when I met with an accident that left me paralyzed on street. I was helpless and destitute” –Jagjeet Singh

In the midst of bustling streets and busy lives there exist a silent cry for help from those who have been overlooked and forgotten -the homeless elderly. Behind the façade of everyday life lies a world of pain, agony and abandonment.

The plight of the elderly homeless is a heartbreaking reality that weighs heavily on our conscience. Frail and vulnerable, these senior citizens have been left to fend for themselves, without a roof over their heads or a comfort of a warm beds, their bodies battered by the harsh condition. Many suffer from deliberating health issues, unable to access the medical care they so desperately need. The spark in their eyes seems extinguished replaced by haunting emptiness. It’s a cruel fate that no human being should have to endure. The lack of care, support and love been the main cause which ensure their undignified end.

INDIAdonates’ partner Delhi house society runs Sewa Ashram from last 25 years where the homeless elderly is served with food, shelter, cloth and health care. Sewa Ashram offers the homeless a platform where they can experience a new journey of their last days with unconditional love care and dignified lives. The aim is to bring dignity, care, and hope to old, sick and abandoned individuals, ensuring healthier, happier and peaceful time for them.
