Summary

As part of our COVID-19 Response “Building Resilient Rural Medical Infrastructure”, we are now working with our 7th partner hospital, Mohulpahari Hospital, Dumka, Jharkhand. Mohulpahari Hospital caters to some of the remotest villages of Jharkhand which house people from indigenous & marginalized communities. According to hospital authorities, lack of basic infrastructure that is relevant in COVID care is acting as a major deterrent to providing  relief to patients in remote parts of rural India.

The hospital is one of the few charitable hospitals in the district, and is catering to sizable number of COVID patients, despite limited capacity. Currently, it is functioning beyond its capacity and needs immediate assistance to be able to provide COVID care to critical  patients, and share the burden of the government COVID hospital for the district.

Shortage:

Dumka district currently has almost 200 active cases with the number of new positive cases rising everyday. The 130 bedded hospital currently does not have an ICU and is referring incoming critical COVID cases to the government hospital due to lack of COVID facilities and oxygenated beds. Mohulpahari Hospital is in urgent need of Oxygen Concentrators as well as oxygen cylinders, which can provide immediate help to patients, along with PPE kits and other safety equipment.

The hospital. The government primary health care center has long since been completely overwhelmed under the mounting pressure of caseloads in the second wave. It is imperative that the hospital is able to set up resilient COVID treatment services with relevant equipment at the earliest, to meet the challenge of increasing numbers.
