In the heart of Sonbhadra, where the sun beats down on the hard earth and the days are long and unforgiving, one woman saw a pain that cut deeper than the harshness of the land. As stonecutters toiled from dawn to dusk within the cruel clutches of poverty and destitution, their innocent and hungry children became the silent sufferers of an endless struggle against hunger. The sight of these little ones, with their empty stomachs and tired eyes, became too much for her to bear.
Urmila devi, known simply and affectionately as "Chachi," could not turn away from their pain. Every child she saw was a reminder of her own, every tear shed a cry that echoed in her heart. Chachi, with the unwavering empathy that only a mother can possess, made a vow to herself and to those children: no more would they go hungry if she could help it.
She began small, cooking meals with whatever she could gather, pouring not just ingredients but her love and compassion into each pot. Word spread quickly, and soon, the children began to come, drawn by the warmth of Chachi’s care. With a heart full of compassion, Chachi tirelessly journeys through the Sukrut and Jungle Mahal Basti area in Sonbhadra, with her Mobile Van, her ‘Chalti’ Kitchen, making sure every child receives a warm, nourishing meal at their doorsteps. Her mobile van becomes a beacon of hope, bringing comfort and care to those who need it most, ensuring no child goes to bed hungry. They started calling her "Chachi," not just as a name, but as a sign of the bond she had forged with them—a bond born of shared hardship and the simple, pure act of feeding a hungry child.
With the support of the Hope Welfare Trust, Chachi ki Rasoi was born—a mobile community kitchen that has become a lifeline for the children of Sukrut and Jungle Mahal Basti. Every meal served is a testament to the power of one woman's love, a reminder that in the darkest times, hope can still grow.
But as the needs grow, so do the challenges. Chachi has given all that she can, but she cannot do it alone. The pots are running empty, and the need remains great. This is where you come in. Your support, and your kindness, can keep Chachi’s flame of hope burning bright. By joining hands with INDIAdonates and Hope Welfare Trust, you can help ensure that no child in Sonbhadra has to sleep on an empty stomach.
Let us be the ones who nourish these children’s bodies and souls. Let us carry forward the legacy of Chachi’s love. Your contribution of Rs. 1700 today will feed hope for tomorrow.
