Christmas is a warm reminder of love and togetherness—brimming with joy, laughter, and delicious feasts. The city sparkles with festive lights, and homes are filled with warmth and cosiness. People dress up for the holidays, picking out gifts for those they cherish and creating lasting memories. But for many, the holiday season is a reminder of what they don’t have—shelter, safety, or even the comfort of a home. Imagine spending this time of the year without the warmth of family or the joy of a place to call your own.
Unfortunately, Preeti is not alone in this situation.
Delhi’s winter temperatures can dip as low as 1 degree Celsius, leaving the homeless exposed to unbearable cold. With over 300,000 people living on the streets, including children, women, and the elderly, the situation is dire (Source: Headcount conducted by NGO Shahri Adhikar Manch: Begharon Ke Saath, between 27 to 31 August 2024). Shelters are few and overcrowded, and many have nowhere to go but the open roads. Last year, 180 homeless individuals in Delhi lost their lives to the cold (Source: Centre for Holistic Development (CHD)). This year, we need your help to ensure that no more lives are lost.
You can make a difference. This Winter, Share the Warmth
INDIAdonates has collaborated with its on-ground partner, Housing Land Rights Network (HLRN) to provide relief to the homeless in Delhi during this winter. Their team is on mission to provide 500 individuals from 275 homeless families across Delhi with blankets and floor mats. (Padam Singh Gol Chakkar, Nehru Place, Lajwanti Garden, CP Gole Market Kali Mandir, Pusa Gol Chakkar, Raja Garden, and Ber Sarai.) A blanket might seem like a small thing, but for someone sleeping on the streets, it could be the difference between life and death.
This Christmas, let the warmth of your home extend beyond your walls. Join us in making this Christmas a time of true giving and compassion. Your generosity can make a huge difference. Make a donation to save a life.
